Venkat Medical Centre closure – patients urged to take action

Venkat Medical Centre, Tile Cross Road, Birmingham will no longer be providing medical services to its patients from 11 April 2016.

The practice, in Tile Cross Road, was last year placed into special measures by the Care Quality Commission (CQC) and the practice’s GP has resigned his contract to provide medical services.

Patients of Venkat Medical Centre have been receiving care on an interim basis from Bucklands End Lane Surgery.

Karen Helliwell, NHS Birmingham CrossCity Clinical Commissioning Group’s Director of Primary Care and Integration, said: “We know that some patients may be upset by the closure of their GP practice and we are very sorry for any disruption this may cause.

“We are currently working to ensure that all the patients currently registered at Venkat Medical Centre are aware of what is happening and also that they receive the information they need to help them register with another family doctor practice before 11 April 2016.

“After careful consideration, the contract will not be given to different GPs on a permanent basis, due to the low numbers of patients registered at the medical centre and the capacity in neighbouring GP surgeries for all patients to be able to register with a new local practice.

“Patients have received letters advising them that they need to take action; this also provides them with a list of all the GP surgeries in the area. We will also be communicating with patients again before the closure day and have held two meetings for patients to find out more information.

“We would like to reassure patients that we will manage the safe transfer of NHS records, to whichever practice they choose to register with. We will also ensure that vulnerable patients will be appropriately supported to register with a different GP practice.”
