Palliative & End of Life Care

end-of-lifeOur vision is for people in Birmingham to die with dignity and in a place of their choosing.

There is a need for this type of service as people are living longer, and need support with their range of medical problems – some of which are incurable.

• Palliative care – Services that support patients and their families with an illness that can't be cured, to improve their quality of life
• End of life care – Services that support patients and their families who are in the final 12 months of their life.

At the moment, palliative and end of life care services in Birmingham vary depending on where you live. This means that services are inconsistent and don't meet the needs of the increasing number of people who need this type of care in the city.

In order to provide people with the best possible support, Birmingham CrossCity and Birmingham South Central CCGs are working together to come up with solutions.
