There are a range of acute and longer term in-patient facilities available for those who pose a risk to themselves and others, and who require a degree of security while being assessed and treated. Patients will be detained under the Mental Health Act with restrictions imposed by the Ministry of Justice and the Home Office, following sentencing for criminal offences while mentally disordered. Within Birmingham there are:
- Raeside - Birmingham Great Park, Bristol Road South, Rubery, Birmingham, B45 9BE - male
- Tamarind Centre - 165 Yardley Green Road, Bordesley Green, Birmingham, B9 5PU - male
- Ardenleigh - Kingsbury Road, Erdington, Birmingham, B24 9SA - female
These services are commissioned by NHS England on a regional basis and require a gateway assessment prior to acceptance. The pathway will link back to mainstream hospital and community services when the patient is deemed to have recovered sufficiently to no longer require this degree of security. Raeside Community Forensic services provide follow up and supervision with integration back into community services.
