Pharmacy opening hours for Christmas and New Year 2016-17

Families are being urged to plan ahead for Christmas and the New Year by making sure they know in advance where they can get expert health advice for common problems.

NHS Birmingham CrossCity Clinical Commissioning Group has published the hours of pharmacies which will open their doors during the Christmas and New Year holiday dates on its website, as well as through its Facebook and Twitter accounts.

This means families can get advice and over-the-counter medicines during the busy holiday period to help cope with ailments such as coughs, colds, aches and pains, as well as advice on healthy eating and stopping smoking.

Pharmacists play a key role in providing quality healthcare. They are experts in medicines and will use their clinical expertise, together with their practical knowledge to help you decide whether you need to see a health professional.

Mark DasGupta, NHS Birmingham CrossCity CCG’s Associate Director of Medicines Management, said: “If you are feeling unwell this Christmas or New Year, one of the best places to go for advice is your local pharmacy. Don’t forget that you can also get health advice 24 hours a day from NHS 111, as well as using your local walk-in centre if you have a health issue which cannot wait until your GP is open.

“I would encourage families to help safeguard local health services this winter by seeking advice from their pharmacist, the NHS 111 service, local walk-in centre or GP practice first, and stay away from A&E if possible, which is for serious and life-threatening injuries and conditions only.”
