Avoid A&E this bank holiday weekend

Health chiefs from Birmingham CrossCity Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) are urging residents to avoid A&E this bank holiday weekend unless it’s a life threatening emergency.

Dr Gavin Ralston, Chair of Birmingham CrossCity CCG said: “The summer bank holiday is happily nearly here and the last thing anyone wants to do is spend it in A&E. People sometimes think that A&E is the quickest place to get treatment, however there are lots of other services available that can advise on and treat non-life threatening illnesses and injuries more quickly. These include GP out-of-hours services, urgent care and walk-in centres, NHS 111 and pharmacies.

“There are also steps people can take to keep themselves and their family well such as stocking up the medicine cabinet with basics like painkillers, cold and flu remedies, plasters and bandages.”

By choosing the right service to treat illness or injury, people will receive the quickest and most appropriate treatment so they can continue to enjoy the bank holiday.
