12 Days of winter animation helps people in Birmingham and Solihull to get the right care

12daysWith Christmas fast approaching, it can be a very exciting time of year as we prepare for the big day. But would you know where to access NHS services over Christmas, if you needed to?

With the healthcare services under more pressure during the winter months, it’s vital that local people know where and how to access services over Christmas and New Year. The NHS in Birmingham and Solihull have created their very own animation which offers advice, tips and messages about staying well this winter.

The animation provides a fun way of accessing information about how to stay well this winter, such as keeping in control of any long term health conditions, remembering repeat prescriptions and getting the flu jab. The animation also offers information about the range of health services on offer such as NHS 111 and local pharmacy, as well as tips on how to (try!) and eat healthily this month.

Dr Richard Mendelsohn, a local GP and Chief Medical Officer at NHS Birmingham and Solihull CCGs said: “It’s important to be prepared this Christmas and to make sure you have stocked-up your medicine cabinet. Useful items include your usual pain killers, diarrhoea treatment and a basic first aid kit.

“Also, if you have a repeat prescription, make sure you pick it up in good time. We can all do our part to help the NHS this Christmas.”

If you do fall ill over Christmas, remember there are lots of NHS services available to you. You can call NHS 111, visit a local pharmacy for advice and medication. When your GP surgery is closed, you can access a GP out-of-hours service, visit your local minor injuries unit or urgent care centre.
