NHS Birmingham CrossCity Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG), on behalf of health and social care partners across Birmingham, are looking for local people to help shape the way that local mental health services are delivered.
As an 'Expert by Experience', volunteers will draw upon their experiences of mental health services to contribute to the design, improvement and delivery of local care. They will be asked to take part in meetings, support and influence decision makers and make connections with local patient groups, to make sure their views are heard.
Dr Barbara King, Birmingham CrossCity CCG's Clinical Accountable Officer said: "Our aim is to put patients at the heart of the services that we commission, so the mental health experts by experience will play a hugely valuable role. I would encourage people who have been involved with mental health services to apply and help make a real difference to local services."
Applicants should have current, or previous personal experience of mental health services in Birmingham, either as a service user or a carer. Other requirements are good communication skills, self-motivation, a positive attitude and a desire to make a difference.
The volunteer role is unpaid, but out-of-pocket expenses such as travel costs, will be reimbursed by the CCG. The role is for a minimum of 12 months, starting from 1 September 2015 and will involve time commitment of seven to 21 hours per month, on average.
The closing date for expressions of interest is 5pm, on Friday 7 August 2015.
