South Birmingham GP walk-in centre is now open from 8am-10pm, seven days a week. Patients attending the centre in Katie Road, Selly Oak, will benefit from the extended hours until 31 March 2016.
Dr Louise Lumley, a local GP at Greenridge Primary Care Centre and NHS Birmingham CrossCity Clinical Commissioning Group’s (CCG) Secondary Care Redesign Lead, said: “This is great news for patients in Birmingham and means they can access the walk-in centre until late, seven days a week.
“The additional 14 hours of access a week has been organised by the CCG, to help relieve the additional pressure on the urgent healthcare system during the winter months.
“By opening until 10pm at night, the walk-in centre will support patients during a time when health services are busier and the demand on urgent care services is at a peak.”
Walk-in centres can help with minor illnesses and injuries such as:
- Infections and rashes;
- Stomach ache;
- Vomiting and diarrhoea;
- Minor cuts and bruises; and
- Minor burns and strains.
